10 yrs ago would you have believed any of this ?

Posted by admin on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Bang the ghost of Christmas past hits you over the head with his mumbo jumbo wand and transports you back to Dec of 1998

And there you are — Your mission ? To tell yourself all the things you have to look forward to — Will you believe it or dismiss it all as rubbish ?

Free speech zones pop up in the US some with cages after an attack on US soil that left some wondering if the government was incompetent and others to speculate the government attacked themselves etc etc

Billion of billions have been spent on Iraq – in a war that toppled a dictator and left the US as an occupier — Yes tell yourself 10 yrs ago that the US would occupy some nation in the world —

"The big 3 "are close to bankrupt and 700 billion was printed to save banks and insurance underwriters – and then another 800 billion but the begging auto sector will not get the 85 billion they asked for

Have you kicked yourself out of the house yet ?

A black President is about to take command of the US

No one in power is going to do anything in the next decade to end illegal crossing of the border – China will sell your kids and pets some poison products and your government won’t be doing much about that either because — China holds most of your 10 trillion dollar national debt

Have you called the men in white coats to take you away yet ?

India and China are real players in the world economy and might be taking the lead away from the US at some point if things don’t change soon —

Ok — now are you in hysterics on the floor of wherever you were in Dec of 1998

Or have you believed yourself or just had your head smashed in by your 1998 self ?

—————————–

How many of you succeeded in your mission to tell yourself 10 yrs ago about all the things that have happened in 10 yrs ?

No. I wouldn’t have believed it.

I tried your experiment. I remembered where I lived and worked. The friends that I had. The end of the Clinton administration. Y2K scares. The attack on the twin towers……………..

And that’s where I stopped. I still have problems believing that it happened. My whole world was shaken. Unforgettable yet unbelievable.

I failed in my mission but I tried. Maybe it’s best that I didn’t know because I got to live a few more years with a false sense of "Nothing like that could ever happen here".

I hope you don’t mean theres anything wrong with a black president taking over? And I figured it would happen one day in the 2000 period of time…but not just so soon. ^_^

Who would have thought that the country would have allowed the incompetent in to the White House at that time?

As a biblical scholar, I have always believed that a one-world government was coming, but never thought I’d live to see the day. However, since we are heading in that direction at lightning speed, and remembering how things were 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have believed that it was possible in my lifetime. And I would have never in a million years believed that Carter, Bush 1, Clinton, Bush 2 AND Obama were all working toward that goal – to weaken, disarm, and bankrupt America to the point where it is easily absorbed into a global government.

Actually, I saw this coming back when the foreign products started flowing into the U.S. killing our factories and causing loss of American jobs. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. You lose your jobs, you lose your country. We did it to ouselves to save a buck on cheap c**p from overseas. I am sure our WW1 and WW2 soldiers who lost their lives fighting for our freedoms are so proud of us?

I think our prez elect will be the best out of who we had to vote for to help us muddle through this mess and hopefully come out the other side with universal healthcare and a better economy.

After 10 years I would probably say, hmm, yea I could see a major decline coming when the Republican nominee was more liberal then many Democrat nominees in the last century. Our nation seemed to have slipped into a world of horrible complacency.
People would attribute much of our woes to the W, but that is not fair at all. The Democrats involvement in the subprime crisis should not be overlooked or marginalized. Until we can select better leaders, (and I for one am not convinced our current choices are better, just different), we will continue on this course of steady decline. The first step along the way I think is a return to personal responsibility for are own lives and our Government.

No. 10 years ago I would not have believed it because life was just dandy. But I was also very busy raising 3 boys and running a small at home business. So while I’ve always thought I was paying attention, it was only to what they wanted me to hear and see. If I had known that anything that has gone on was a possibility, our plans would have been very, very different. So yes… my ‘now’ self has just whacked my ‘then’ self upside the head. Really Hard.

I believe all of this actually began in the 70’s although Ronald Reagan was the one with the global vision. The quest since the late 90’s has been to end poverty in countries where people earn $1 or less per day. While that may be a noble cause, I think that rather than end poverty for other countries, we are joining them in that state.

It is the new world order coming to fruition. I’m afraid the America I grew up in is dead. Obama is on the same program as the republicans and Bush. He may claim he isn’t, but so did Clinton. He said he wouldn’t sign NAFTA but ended up rushing it through congress. Obama has an $845 billion bill which would have us paying a tax to the UN for Africa. He will be creating an added $7 trillion deficit to the already existing $10 trillion. There is no doubt about the fact this is completely intentional with a specific goal in mind that has nothing to do with keeping the US on top.

In 1988 I would have laughed at the idea that investment bankers would pour BILLIONS of dollars into companies that didn’t sell a product or provide a service. Then the dot.com boom hit, and I watched trillions get spent on…nothing. Could anything surprise me after that? I would have taken my future self out and gotten him drunk before he had to go back. Seems only fair.

The only thing constant is change, and nobody has ever gone broke underestimating human stupidity.

Yes I would, it would just confirm what I had been saying since 1988.

In 1978, Jimmy Carter challenged America to get off the OPEC in 20 years, that would have been 1998.

Nothing very much weird about it at all.

10 years ago, I was calling for Clinton to depose Saddam, and wondering why he lacked the courage to do it. It was the inevitable outcome.

The Big 3 have been close to disaster before, and even 10 years ago, they were losing market share and their business model (including the labor costs) were pretty much known to be poison if the market ever went in the tank.

The bank bailout would have been a surprise, but not that terribly shocking. That the government would create the fiasco that it did is not a surprise at all.

A black president isn’t all that big a deal. There are a lot fewer people that obsess about skin color than blacks or liberals believe there are.

The government hasn’t done anything about stemming the flow of illegal immigration for decades, it’s nothing new.

China and India have long been considered potential engines of economic growth, they just needed the government to get out of their way and let them make it happen.

China has been doing shoddy work for decades; a friend who visited there in the early ’80’s had a full list of horror stories. That someone put poisonous substances in food products doesn’t surprise me at all.

As for doing something about it, what are we supposed to do? Do you understand the volume of goods and foodstuffs that arrive from China (and from other countries, too) every day? Too much to inspect. Trying to inspect them would cause ports to literally shut down. That would be a bad thing.

Oh, and India and China aren’t about to overtake the US anytime soon. Get a grip.

I find it shocking that any adult would consider any of these things a surprise – it means they weren’t paying attention.

It’s all so complicated.

China passed the US economically quite some time ago. As did the European union. India will do soon, once they wake to the fact that the antagonisms between them and Pakistan are being perpetuated by distant lands. Peoples of India and Pakistan, for your own sake, and that of the whole planet, unite! It really is the best thing that you can do.

As a Scot who left school just as our then PM Margaret Thatcher was crushing the coal miners union, and all the other trade unions were feeling the pinch under her stern no nonsense approach as well. Quite rightly so, as the unions were bringing our nation to a halt because they had too much power. The unemployment levels in those days were very high too, in fact, I and most other school leavers had no chance of a job. Also, the cold war was at it’s height and we believed nuclear war was likely and the fall of the Soviet Union was something no one ever expected to see, just as a re-unified Germany, the end of the Iron Curtain and the end of the Berlin Wall. I never expected to see any of the above, never even dreamed that I would. The beginning of the 1980’s were dark days, and the beginning of the 1990’s were like the start of a new era in European life. I for one felt like the world was changing for the better, despite the first Gulf war.
Then in ‘97, Tony Blair and the government of New Labour, brought promise of regeneration into our lives, and suddenly everyone who wanted a job could get one!! Yes, those days did make me feel positive about the world. Then, after all the hype of the Millennium Bug had passed without the doomsday scenario so often predicted by so many, and nothing happened, we all awoke on January 1st 2000 and I felt like we were living in a brave new world, after my hangover had gone that is!
I felt really positive about the future of humanity.
Then, in 2001, our illusions were shattered overnight, a dark force had come out to play. I knew immediately that two planes definitely couldn’t have brought 3 concrete and steel buildings down on their own without help. This, of course was the catalyst for this disgusting and frightening war that threatens every single one of us, no matter what race, religion or nationality we are, we all face the same direct threat to our freedom and our very existence. What do we say to our children? How do we tell them that the world wasn’t always this way?
You have posed a really good question here, in fact, it has to be one of the best I’ve seen on here so far, but finally to conclude with an answer to your question, todays evil world would’ve been totally unbelievable 10 or so years ago. It is a total nightmare scenario that has been meticulously planned and then thrust upon us by the evil forces who control our planet today, evil forces who have dark plans for all of us!
