Insurance sales – doubts?
I just got a job with Aflac, and I’m already considering quitting. I haven’t even started yet; I have about three days of training to do and then they’re pretty much going to throw me out there to start setting up appointments. I have to come up with like 60 businesses plus 100 "circle of influence" leads, which include friends, acquaintances, and so on. I’m supposed to memorize these lame scripts they have on a CD. It’s commission only and it just sounds like a dishonest and tiresome job. Has anybody tried insurance, hated it, and quit soon after starting?
That is pretty much what insurance companies do to us…dick us over any way they can.
It is normal behavior, but you have to convince the customer they are getting a deal, or brain wash them to belive "if you die today, what will your spouse do tomorrow?"
Once you get over the initial "screwing over" the customer, you will be just as good as any insurance sales person.

Don’t quite… just start your own business marketing health and dental benefits with ameriplan(r). That way within a short 2-4 years you will have a great income and can stop working for anyone other than yourself.

Your issue is not the insurance part, your issue is the coming up with leads and selling part. It does not sound like you are ready for a job that is 100% commission, so yes, you will probably hate it. having a commission only job and not making any commission would be tiresome, it sounds like you need to find a salaried position.
