If a father spends money irresponsibly should the family leave him? huge life issue please help?
I have been lead to believe I was getting help with college by getting car insurance paid for. I have always been told I would get help for college but I just was told that I have to buy my own car and insurance. My father has things new truck, satellite, flat screen tv, other things that cost about 4k but I will not say what they are, a motorcycle but what ever that has all been purchased with in the last about 6 years. But from what I know he can not pay my insurance 60 dollars a month because he has to pay taxes which will cost him 4,000 dollars. I feel like I have been disowned.
I probably can get my own car and school paid for but he refuses to help after telling me he would help. What would Mahatma Gandhi do?
Yes treeboo, I do understand all of that but I forgot to add that there are other things that he has done that make leaving more reasonable. I am uhhh forget it……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Firstly, I don’t think you should leave your father because of his lack of cooperation to financially help you. Sometimes people don’t understand the implications of their spending. After all your father is human – not Superman, so don’t feel betrayed ;0). I’m positive he loves you very much and only wants the best for you. BUT, instead of being mad at him you should take this opportunity to to recognize your financial values. Do you want to be that strapped? How can you prepare yourself to not be in that financial predicament? Maybe you imagine a nice little emergency nest egg in case situations come up again (because believe me, they will!) Maybe you don’t realize how much your father is in fact helping you… Sounds lame but perhaps i shed some insight :0)
and yes of course you can get a car and school paid far! There are plenty of tools!
I’m just answering based on the information I was given. I hope that you and your Dad can solve this. You seem like a bright guy so I really hope this works out well for you in the end. I’m sure it will.

My parents always bought nice things for themselves and made me buy my own things. I never held it against them. When I got old enough I bought all my own nice things and paid my own way through college.
